I haven't done segmentation on huspot but by using normal email and company's enternal ESP. I work as International marketing manager and looking after the USA sales. Company is exporting buildinaterial to USA and Canada. I have created many segment product wise, location wise and nature of customer wise. It make you planning to reach prospect stronger.

Segments by profession and state (location) — I haven't created this in HubSpot (and in the real estate SaaS I'm currently in), but I have used this segmentation categorization using another ESP (Email Service Provider) and industry.

Segmentation is something I have not done before but from knowledge, it depends on product or services to be market. For example, AGE: the way you market your product to age above 60 would be different from marketing to youth. Secondly, STATUS/INTEREST: the way you market to CEOs/COO/ companies decision makers will be quite different to the way you market to job seekers or anyother persons out there.

I think that email segmentation should depend on your audience and goals. Some high-performing segments we've used include engaged subscribers (frequently open/click emails), past purchasers for personalized recommendations, and inactive users for re-engagement campaigns. We've seen significant increases in open rates and conversions by tailoring content to each group’s behavior and interests.

We are planning to target Universities so I was thinking depending of what particulars courses they are offering, though I'm still trying to figure out what will work really best for tis type of Industry. If something pops on your I would gladly appreciate anyones opinion. Thanks!

Courses can be career development, academic help... I think these could be more specific. For example, training courses can be segmented according to different career directions. Maybe a survey would help.
