In order for me to consider opening or interacting with an email, I need a solid subject line. One that doesn't have too much information but gives me just enough to make me want to learn more. From there, I need a short, concise, and to the point email with an easy CTA button to direct me where I need to go.

It should have an efficient, catchy, balanced layout, not too loaded, not too pushy. Promise to Resolve problems in the subject line. CTA on the top (if they decide to return to it again) and maybe several times along the scroll.

A high-performing email is simple, focused, and intentional. The subject line catches attention without trying too hard. The message gets to the point fast, why it matters and what they should do next. One clear CTA. Visuals with meaning and every part of the email works toward one goal leads convertion.

An eye-catching subject line, first and foremost. But for the email body, including a video has usually been pretty successful and emails that aren't too long. If people have to scroll too much, especially on their phone, it can be an immediate delete. The content has to be short, and full of value with a CTA close to the top and repeated near the bottom.

In your opinion, what's a successful layout for a high-performing email?

A successful layout for a high-performing email typically follows a clear, goal-driven structure that includes these essential elements:

1. Subject Line

  • Clear, compelling, and personalized (if possible)
  • Creates curiosity or highlights value (e.g., “Unlock Your Free Marketing Toolkit”)

2. Preheader Text

  • Brief supportive text that adds context to the subject line
  • Gives the recipient a reason to open the email

3. Header

  • Brand logo or banner
  • Sets visual consistency

4. Opening Line / Hook

  • Friendly greeting
  • Straight to the point: What’s in it for the reader?

5. Body Content

  • Clear, scannable, and brief paragraphs
  • Use bullet points or bold text for key information
  • Focused on one primary goal or offer

6. Visual Element (Optional but recommended)

  • Relevant image or icon to support the message
  • Should not distract from the CTA

7. CTA (Call to Action)

  • Clear and bold button (e.g., “Download Now,” “Start Free Trial”)
  • Only one main CTA per email to avoid confusion

8. Footer

  • Contact information
  • Unsubscribe link
  • Social media icons (optional)

Almost all of the email campaigns are received in Promotional, Spam, Social... folders. This is why most of the clients are ignoring these emails.

It should be short and concise with a goal before drafting the email. It should include who, when, where, what and why.
