In your opinion, what's a successful layout for a high-performing email?

Hello everyone!

In my opinion an marketing email should  follow the "golden circle" of Simon Seek. First "why", then "how" and finally"what", always paying attention to the flywheel.

People nowadays buy more with emotions, they search something they can relate on, so, based on their persona I would sent an email with my main goal of CTA based on what I've written.

I think the best way to set up an email is simple and straight forward. You want your main message to be the first thing your consumer to see.

The layout should also be anchored on the main objective of the email and its target audience. Hence, there should be a customized and compelling subject line, imagery or videos, a message that flows well at the right length, and a compelling call-to-action.

Attractive Subject Line: Use curiosity, urgency, or value-driven language to grab attention. Keep it short and impactful.

Preheader Text: This acts as a teaser for the email content, complementing the subject line.

2. Header

Include your logo and a clear headline to establish brand identity and immediately convey the purpose of the email.

3. Welcoming/Friendly Intro

Start with a personalized greeting (e.g., “Hi [Name]”).

Use a warm and conversational tone to build

a connection.

I really like the format of the daily newsletter I get from my local NPR station, www.jaxtoday.org. I emulate it in a book club I run for marketing people (currently paused, but if you're in library marketing or a library marketing enthusiast, check out the fb group look for library marketing book club). Anyway, not trying to plug a bunch of stuff but providing some context.

Of anything here, I love the teaser at the top. I think it is effective in getting the reader to read more of the message because they're looking for that content they heard about in the beginning. Very useful!!!

I like to use a headline, media, short copy, call to action button format with hyperlinked text calls to action in the copy with a different color text to make it stand out (but not look like you're typical blue underlined hyperlink).

This email was intended to drive people to come to the monthly book club meeting. It had a 54% open rate and 20% click rate. Most people who attend book club meetings now say they hear about it through email. It's a small group, but it's been fun building this email format. I plan to use it professionally when I have the chance.

Let me know if you have any suggestions about this! Thanks, all!Chris Boivin - Email Marketing - Sample Email - 54pct open 20pct clickthrough.jpeg

To me a compelling subject line, a customized welcome, a succinct body with a single focus, a powerful call-to-action (CTA), and an eye-catching design are all characteristics of high-performing emails. Make sure your content is mobile-friendly and use white space, images, and bullet points to make it easier to read.

In my opinion, a successful marketing email template focuses on one call to action, includes a captivating yet relevant subject line, and the offer / piece of information should relate to something the reader would want.

I think the email should be short , concise - straight to the point. But most importantly have a clear CTA button. One should also make sure the email is conversational. Ideally it should pick up from the reader's last CTA, if there was one before the current email.

Compelling Subject Line: Start with a subject line that grabs attention and entices the reader to open the email. Keep it short, relevant, and intriguing.

Preheader Text: Use the preheader text to provide a brief summary of the email content. This should complement the subject line and encourage the reader to continue

Eye-Catching Header Image: Include a visually appealing header image that aligns with your brand and the email's purpose. This sets the tone and draws the reader in.

Clear and Concise Body Content: Break up the content into short paragraphs or bullet points. Use subheadings to organize the information and make it easy to scan. Ensure the content is relevant and valuable to the reader.

In your opinion, what's a successful layout for a high-performing email?

A successful high-performing marketing email template should have a clean, engaging layout that drives the reader toward a specific action. Here’s a breakdown of what that layout might look like:

### 1. **Clear and Concise Subject Line**

   - The subject line is the first thing people see, so it should be short, intriguing, and provide a clear idea of the value the email offers. It should spark curiosity or promise a benefit.

   - **Example:** "Unlock 30% Off Your Next Purchase!" or "The Ultimate Guide to Boosting Your Productivity"

### 2. **Personalized Greeting**

   - If possible, personalize the email with the recipient’s name. This small touch helps make the email feel more relevant and engaging.

   - **Example:** "Hi [First Name],"

### 3. **Compelling Header**

   - The header should have a simple, bold message that aligns with the subject line, summarizing the email’s key offering or content. This is the hook that keeps the reader engaged.

   - **Example:** "Your Exclusive Offer Awaits!"

### 4. **Body Content (Value-Oriented)**

   - The body of the email should focus on **benefit-driven** content, not just the features of a product or service. It should answer "what's in it for me?" for the reader.

   - Use short paragraphs and bullet points to make the email easy to skim.

   - **Example:** "Get 30% off on your next order when you use code SAVE30. This offer ends soon, so act fast!"

### 5. **Visually Appealing CTA (Call-to-Action)**

   - A high-performing email should have a **clear, prominent call-to-action** button that stands out. It should guide the reader toward the desired action (e.g., “Shop Now,” “Claim Your Offer,” “Learn More”).

   - Use action-oriented text that conveys urgency or value.

   - **Example CTA Button:** "Shop Now and Save 30%"

### 6. **Social Proof or Testimonials**

   - If applicable, including testimonials, reviews, or success stories can help build trust and encourage action.

   - **Example:** "Join over 1,000 satisfied customers who’ve saved with us."

### 7. **Eye-Catching Visuals**

   - Use high-quality images or graphics that complement your message and don't overwhelm the email. If you’re promoting a product, showing it in action can be powerful.

   - Ensure visuals are optimized for mobile viewing, as many users will open emails on their phones.

### 8. **Clear and Simple Footer**

   - Include the basics: your contact information, unsubscribe option, and links to social media profiles or the website.

   - Keep the footer unobtrusive but accessible.

### 9. **Mobile-Friendly Design**

   - Since many emails are read on mobile devices, make sure the layout is **responsive**, meaning it looks good on both desktops and smartphones. Use larger buttons, larger fonts, and ensure images are optimized for smaller screens.

### Example Layout Breakdown:

**Subject Line:**

"Unlock 30% Off Your Next Purchase!"

**Header (Main Value Proposition):**

"Save Big on Your Favorite Products!"

**Body Content:**

- Short paragraph introducing the offer.

- Bullet points with key benefits or features.

- "Why You'll Love This" section with a short testimonial or social proof.

**CTA Button:**

"Shop Now & Save 30%"

(Place the CTA in the middle and at the bottom of the email to ensure it’s visible.)

**Footer:**

- Contact Information

- Social Media Icons

- Unsubscribe Link

---

### Extra Credit:

If I were to create a visual representation, it would be a simple, clean layout with the subject line and header at the top, followed by a few lines of copy, a CTA button near the middle, and some social proof or testimonial at the bottom, e

nding with a footer containing necessary legal or contact info.
