"Opted out of all communication" vs. "marketing contact" status
SOLVE
When a contact opts out of all communications or email communications, it no longer makes sense to have them flagged as a "marketing contact", as this creates a paradox. Yet, it seems that a user's opt out decision does not trigger their Marketing contact status to switch to "non-marketing contact". Is there a way to set up such an automated response, or, better still, could Hubspot enable this behavior to resolve such foreseeable and obvious conflicts?
HubSpot doesn't have an out of the box feature for this but this can easily be set up with a contact-based workflow.
You enroll contacts into the workflow when "Unsubscribed from all email is equal True", then use the "Set contact contact status" to set the contact as non-marketing.
While you're at it, I'd recommend adjusting the enrollment criteria to include:
Email is unknown
Email hard bounce reason is known
Invalid email is equal to True
Best regards!

Curious to know- what if they opted out of communication but you want to use them in a Hubspot audience list to serve ads via an ads platform? In this case it's not really a paradox as they are simply opting out of personal communication but it still serves us good to have them as marketing contacts.
