open rates vs downloading images

SOLVE

How does HubSpot measure opens?  Are downloading images what constitutes an open?  What happens if there are no images in the email?

See the relevant article: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/articles/kcs_article/email/how-does-hubspot-calculate-email-opens

"HubSpot is able to track email opens by embedding a one-pixel invisible image into the message once it is sent. When your recipient views the email and the image loads, HubSpot counts this as an open."

Hi @bbradley

The statement you quoted indicates that if a recipient's email client prevents downloading of the tracking pixel but they do click a link, HubSpot is still able to identify this as an open (and a click).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick response, very helpful.  I am a little confused by the below - does this mean that clicks are not unique and only calculated when opened/downloaded?

For HubSpot marketing emails only, an email open will be calculated if a user clicks on a link in an email, even if images (and the tracking pixel) don't load.
