Why can't I send email to over 2/3 of my contacts?

SOLVE

I uploaded a list of 940 contacts, but I'm receiving a message that 520 recipients will not be included with no other info. Any ideas?

Why can't I send email to over 2/3 of my contacts?

SOLVE

Hi @Celerity

There are a number of possible reasons as well as an existing community thread:

  • This number might be off due to list processing times
  • The estimated recipients will not count any contacts from the list who've unsubscribed from or never subscribed to your marketing emails
  • quarantined, bounced, unengaged, or non-marketing contacts will also be automatically excluded from receiving your email
  • Contacts with invalid or missing email addresses will also be excluded.

I hope that helps.

Frank

Hi @Celerity,

There might be various reasons why contacts are being excluded:

You are suppressing unengaged contacts in the Recipients tab of the email. If checked, HubSpot will exclude these contacts.

Are you using the marketing contacts functionality? If yes, are all recipients marked as marketing contacts? (HubSpot will not send emails to non-marketing contacts.)

Do you have the GDPR settings enabled? If yes, you might have restricted email sends to contacts who have a legal basis for communication only. In that case, you would have to update your contact subscriptions.

Have some of the contacts previously bounced? You can check by filtering your recipient list by "Email hard bounce reason is known".

Did you already hit your monthly email send limit? (5X marketing contact tier)

Have some of the contacts previously unsubscribed? You can check by filtering your recipient list by "Unsubscribed from all email is equal to True".

Can you check these things and report back?

Hi @Celerity

1.This is might be because to sent out an mketing email the Contacts must set to Marketing contact.

2.One more thing Before sending out email must check whether they are bounced contact or not.As I can see that you enable the option "Do not Send to Unengaged contact" So might be it possible that these 520 conatcts are unengaged/Unsubscribed.

Thank you all! Really appreciate the feedback and support. When I logged in this morning, the count was updated to a number more closely aligned to what I was expecting. Guessing it was due to the list processing time, but I also removed a few filters per your feedback 🙂

Thanks again!

Imported a contact list of 280 emails earlier this week. My first email looks like it will only go to 2 of the 280? I'm new to hubspot but this feels like it should be straightforward. Troubleshooting from the suggestions:

--list processing times - I assume this would be resolved already since it's been a few days since import?

--since this is the first email/first time using hubspot, no emails should be unsubscribed, (but also none of them subscribed through hubspot...?)

--quarantined, bounced, unengaged, or non-marketing contacts - not an issue yet, right?

--Contacts with invalid or missing email addresses --- the import was successful and I've emailed all these contacts before

--not supressing unengaged contacts

--free account, so don't have the marketing contacts option

--GDPR not enabled.

--no email bounces yet

--haven't sent any emails yet, so no impact to monthly limit

What am I missing?
