This seems like an obvious question but I have been unable to find a clear definition of what marketing contacts are. I need to have a clear idea of what they are in order to make decisions on adding more, especially when we are close to our threshold.
Marketing contacts in HubSpot are contacts that you designate to receive marketing communications, such as emails, ads, and other forms of outreach through HubSpot's marketing tools. Only marketing contacts count toward your contact tier limit and billing, while non-marketing contacts can still be stored in your database but won’t receive marketing messages.
You can set or update a contact’s status (marketing or non-marketing) in bulk or via workflows, and you can change a contact's status to marketing at any time — but converting them back to non-marketing only happens at the start of your next billing cycle.
This distinction helps businesses manage costs and comply with email regulations while still using the CRM for sales, service, or operations purposes.
