Trying to connect marketing email with contact list

Hi - I am new here and have a small business, so I don't require many of the tools in Hubspot. That said, I created a beautiful marketing email, but I cannot figure out how to connect it to my contact list. I uploaded my contact list and can see that I have contacts in the list I created, but when I try to add the contacts to the email, it shows me only 1 sample contact.

If you have any ideas on how to resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi @Jen723,

Here's how you add you recipient list to your marketing email: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/marketing-email/create-and-send-marketing-emails#edit-recipients

If the count is lower than what you would expect, you should see a hyperlink "Review reasons" - please share a screenshot of the recipient section of the email editor if you can't find it.

Very likely, these recipients are either missing an opt-in for the subscription type you chose for your email or marketing contact status:

To send your marketing email to your contact list in HubSpot, make sure your contacts are grouped into an active or static list and marked as “Marketing Contacts.” In the email editor, go to the Send or Schedule tab (not the Preview tab) to select your list as recipients. If the list shows fewer recipients than expected, check that contacts have opted in for the correct subscription type and that their marketing contact status is active.

Hi @Jen723,

Welcome to the HubSpot Community! It is great to have you here.

I am tagging in some of our Community Champions, @Alex_Elborn, @MichaelMa, and @ChrisoKlepke, as they often have great advice for small business owners getting started with these tools.

Based on what you are describing, it sounds like you might be viewing the Preview screen, or there may be a small step missing in your contact setup.

If you are seeing a screen that shows "1 sample contact," you are likely in the Preview tab of the email editor.

Click the Send or Schedule tab at the top right of the editor. This is where you will actually select your recipients.

Marketing emails in HubSpot are typically sent to Lists. Even if you imported your contacts, you need to group them into a List to select them as recipients.

Create active or static lists

If you have a list but it says "0 recipients" when you select it, your contacts might be set as "Non-Marketing."
You can only send marketing emails to contacts marked as "Marketing Contacts."

Set contacts as marketing

I hope this helps you get your first campaign out the door!
