Recent Communications is blank even though I have sent them an email

I have a question but I am not sure if I put in the correct discussion location. That being said, here goes.....
I have some contacts that were recently added to the system and enrolled in a workflow to send them some automated emails. At the end of the workflow, based on various acitivities (open, clicked link, etc.) I created conditional logic to create certain tasks.
The workflow executed without issue, sent the emails, evaluated the activity and so on.
However I noticed when I was looking at their contact records. The "Overview - Recent Communications" column was blank - even though the tooltip suggests it should be otherwise.

So I clicked the activities tab on the contact records and it shows that the emails did go out and were delivered.

Is this a known issue with the "Recent Communications" section of the overview or am I misinterpreting what should be there?
It is indeed a bit of a misinterpretation. "Recent communications" only includes sales emails, not marketing emails. That's why marketing emails show up in the activity timeline but not under "Recent communications". This section is apparently meant for the more personal touchpoints, less the fully automated and bulk ones.
