Pulling Custom Event properties into email

SOLVE

Has anyone found success in adding custom event personalizations into an email? I'm trying to build a simple 'abandoned view' event trigger and highlight the view details (eg name, unique link, location, etc) directly into the email.

Hello @HKim46

Did you try it from here?

If it didn't work, can you provide me with some screenshots on exactly what data you want to send?

Pulling Custom Event properties into email

Hey @DianaGomez ,

Only workaround was to create properties on contact level, then create a workflow for each single one for each event that triggers, then i can reference them, which isn't really something that's worth maintaining, so had to switch to Braze for this project even though would have prefered to take advantage of Hubspot already existing native integration with our event pushing tool.

According to the Q&A in this week's HubSpot Admin HUG, it sounds like custom events in email is coming in Q4 (they discuss near the end) -- https://youtu.be/i-lxkFSe4TE?si=Noa0tkhtBvDAq3t9

@DianaGomez that's great to hear! I do think this remains a bit of a missed opportunity, as the way HubSpot currently handles events still needs some refinement, though it's not too far off.

To give you a clearer picture of what’s held us back from fully transitioning to HubSpot:

  • The issue mentioned above

  • In some cases, emails triggered by events don’t fire reliably due to how contact activity is handled. For example, if there's a delay in receiving two identical events for the same client, only one email is sent while the other is effectively dropped. This poses a significant risk when dealing with transactional emails and i believe this is a bug.

Please keep me posted if these issues are addressed in the future. I’d also be happy to walk you or someone from the team through the specifics, as improving event-based triggers on HubSpot would really help us and others make a full transition more confidently.

Much appreciated!

I'm having the same issue. The Custom Event does not appear as an option in that dropdown above.

I did, but wasn't able to find a section labeled "Custom Events" or something like that. Below is an example of a completed custom event by a user (viewed home). We're passing through event-level properties such as location and name in hopes to populate directly in the email.
