Merge custom info into regular marketing email

Hi there,

I'm trying to merge custom "deal" information that we collect from our customers into a regular marketing email.

The issue is that when you create a regular marketing email, you cannot merge "deal" information as a personalization token. It looks like you can only merge this info when creating an "automatic" email. Creating an automated email every time I want to send an email just to use this type of personalization token doesn't make any sense...

What's the solution or workaround?

Thanks!

Craig

Hi @CraigPence,

What exactly are you referring to when you say "merge"? Personalization tokens?

In that case, you're correct, deal tokens can only be used in automated emails at this stage. I'm not aware of any workarounds here, unfortunately, none that are faster than creating an automating email that is. You could of couse copy deal information from the deal into the contact record (using a deal-based workflow and the 'copy property' value action).

You would then have this information available on the contact record and could personalize regular marketing emails with it. However, that is prone to error and even more work.

Hi @CraigPence,

The issue here is that – if there are multiple deals – you can't tell HubSpot to copy the information from the latest deal into the contact. HubSpot will simply execute the workflow for all deals and whatever one enters the workflow last will be the one that stays copied to the contact record. (Association labels can be used here as a way out and you could label the latest deal with "Latest deal" label but this would require a lot of manual work.)

If you only have one deal per contact, then there isn't any issue.

Cheers!

Hi Karsten!

Thanks for your reply and advice, much appreciated.

Yes, I'm referring to personalization tokens.

I'll look into your suggestion as a potential workaround for now... Can you explain why your suggestion is prone to error? Are you simply referring to human error?

Thanks!

Craig
