Marketing email logged on contact record

quick question.  I am just starting to use  the Marketing Email Campaign feature.  I noticed that when I went to the contact record it didnt show that I had sent an email through the marketing email campaign.  Does this not link back to the record to show you the sent email.  Is there a setting I need to change.  What am I missing here.

Marketing emails should show on the contact timeline - have you check that they included in your current timeline filter settings?

Thank you.  I did check that.  Its strange.  I did a few test emails to myself and they show up in my timeline but when I sent to an acutal contact it didnt show up in his timeline.  I checked the filters on his contact record and it says it is tracking that.  Also, it shows that He did open the email on the marketing campaign dashboard.  There are two emails on his record but it was sent to his primary email address.  Any thoughts?
