For now, the workaround would be to design the test logic from scratch, e.g. using a workflow that enrolls your contacts, then branches randomly (e.g. 50/50), uses the 'Edit record' workflow action to label one group as test, the other as control, then send the SMS. After, you could look at your desired metric by the test/control property.
