How did you decide on email preference categories?

SOLVE

We are in the middle of revamping our email preference categories.

How are your email preferences divided up? And how did you decide on them?

Also, if you have changed them up, how did you handle those that were subscribed to an old category?

Thanks in advance!

How did you decide on email preference categories?

SOLVE

Hello @pina

This is a great question. Depending on your business you may have a few different Email Types that you want to set-up. The most common will be things like Account Information, Marketing Information, Newsletter, Education or based off the branches of your business.

Once you create an email type HubSpot will create that corresponding Contact Property for you, as this article explains. If you delete an email type and a contact has been subscribed to that type of email you will still be able to create a list of them and if you wish to transfer them to another subscription using a workflow.

I have included the instructions on how to change a contact property using a workflow here

Let me know if you have any more questions.

This doesn't allow for changing whether they are opted in to an email type though, right?

Hello @setheryb

If you want to change the type of email someone is subscribed to you can send them a Email Preferences Email Campaign and they can update.

Then they can change the type of email they get from you based off the different ones you have set.

How did you decide on email preference categories?

We're in the process of migrating to HubSpot from Act-On and I was trying to figure out how to transition our current subscriptions over.

What I ended up doing was export the subscriptions as .csv files and importing them to static lists and then adding the static list to a smart subscription list.
