Company list as a Contact list criteria

SOLVE

I have a contact list, and I also have a list of companies. I would like to suppress anyone from the contact list who is tied to a company that is on that company list. Is this possible, perhaps as a workaround?

I see that I can use filters for contacts on lists, or company fields, but not company lists.

I guess I could do a workflow to change a Company field when that company is added to the company list, then use that field in the contact list, but I'd prefer not to add a field.

Company list as a Contact list criteria

SOLVE

Hi @Karagadish,

Setting up a workflow might not be necessary. It's approach this slightly different.

In a contact-based list, you can filter for company properties. As a first step, you would rebuild the criteria that you already have in your company list as company property filters in a new contact-based list.

For example, you company list filters for Company type is 'Ideal customer'. First, you'd create a contact based list, filter for Company properties, select Company type and specify 'Ideal customer'. HubSpot will then return all contacts that are associated with companies of that type.

You now have a contact-based list that you can exclude from your original contact list.

If for some reason you can't rebuild the company filter criteria in a contact-based list, then yes, a workflow would be the next best solution.

Thank you! I used Workflows to set a new field based on the list, and then did pull that company field into the contact list criteria!

Company list as a Contact list criteria

SOLVE

Hello @Karagadish ,

I think, it is possible to suppress contacts in HubSpot who are tied to a company on your company list. One way to do this is by using the HubSpot workflow tool. Here's how you can set it up:

  1. Create a new workflow by navigating to the Automation > Workflows section in your HubSpot portal and clicking on the "Create workflow" button.

  2. Choose the "List membership" trigger and select the contact list you want to suppress.

  3. In the workflow editor, add a "Filter" action and set the filter to "Company is not on list" and select the company list you want to use as a suppression list.

  4. Add an "Unenroll from workflow" action and connect it to the "Filter" action.

  5. Save and activate the workflow.

This workflow will automatically remove any contacts who are tied to a company on your company list from the contact list you selected in step 2. You can also set up a similar workflow for each contact list you want to suppress.

Alternatively, as you mentioned, you can use a custom company property to tag companies on the suppression list, then use this property in a filter to suppress contacts in the list. This method is more manual and may require more upkeep, but it doesn't require adding an additional field to your contacts.

Thank you

Hi Snigam,

I cannot find in the workflow editor, a "Filter" action and set the filter to "Company is not on list" .

Do I miss something in my Org?

Company list as a Contact list criteria

SOLVE

Let's give you the full situation @karstenkoehler .

The Company is related to Custom object.

This issue when I create a contact List, I can access the Company Property by I cannot filtering on a property of the custom object( child of the Company).

Wha I did:

I create an Account List 'AL2'.

I create a list of Contacts 'CL1'.

So I thought, I could:

Create a Contact-based workflow to filter the list of contact 'CL1' where the accounts from the contact 'CL1' are members of the Account List 'AL2'.

"List membership" for company is not shown on the filter from the Contact-based workflow trigger.

I hope this makes it clear and makes sense.

Thanks once again for your help @karstenkoehler
