Company Name field in email campaign - not working
SOLVE
Hi,
I'm creating my first email marketing campaign in Hubspot. It's a simple static list campaign pulling in the person's name and company name.
However, it's not working. It tried sending a test email to a friend at their company and Husbpot immediately wanted a default value for 'company name'. So I used the phrase 'your company'.
I had input a Company Name in my friend's contact information as this was what I wanted to test - does HubSpot reliably pull in the Company Name from the Contact sheet. It didn't. When the email had sent the place where I wanted the actual Company Name to appear had my default text 'your company'.
Any ideas please as to how to fix this?
Also - can you see the email with merged fields (or not) BEFORE you hit send, so you can be sure everything is working? I'm so nervous I'll send emails with Dear CUSTOMER NAME at the start!
Using personalization tokens in emails to pull in company name and other fields definitely works, but it does need to be configured properly:
If you're pulling in "Company name" from the contact record, there needs to be a value set for "Company name"
If you're pulling in "Company name" from the primary associated company record, the contact and company must be associated and there needs to be a value set for "Company name" on the company record
Next up, the email previews can be a little tricky! Like you're seeing, HubSpot will show the default value you set (and within the email preview link, they will always show default values). You were right to send a test email, so just be sure that you meet the above criteria and the friend's record does indeed have the needed value.
I like using the "preview as a specific contact" option within the email preview page within the email builder:
That lets you select a specific contact (one that you know has a value for the property you're pulling) and see how the email would look from their perspective. This preview will pull in actual values, not the default one you set, so it's a pretty nice failsafe.
Company Name field in email campaign - not working

Hi Jolle!
I'm having the same issue as Naomi (my contact's company name won't pull into the personalization tokens I'm deploying in the sequences I'm generating, and I'm having to update all of the company names manually). I appreciate the context you shared above, but I'm not sure I'm tracking how to actually make the necessary changes in Hubspot. Mind helping me out?
