Best practices for changing contact names

SOLVE

I've got a situation something like this. Someone has subscribed to my email newsletter with the email address jean.claude.van.damme@fake.com and using the name Je Van.

Now obviously from the email address I know that his full name is Jean Claude Van Damme. Is it a best practice to change the name so he recieves my newsletters with his full name? Or should I keep it as Je Van because that was the name he used when he subscribed?

I run a online marketing agency in Amsterdam: https://www.invalshoek.nl/

Personally, I wouldn' t change the name - This is the name that they've chosen to tell you, so keep it as that.  Their email address may be a more formal or prescriptive address but the name that they've told you is generally the one that they want to be known by.
