Are you able to set a custom default value for role-based email subscribers?

SOLVE

If a contact subscribes to our email list with role-based details (e.g. Email: marketing @ domain.com,  First Name: Marketing, Last Name: Team), is there a way you can override the default value to a custom value?

I'm thinking specifically for email subject lines or within the copy so that it would be "Hello, John Doe" instead of "Hello, [Customer Services]...".

I know if the value is unknown, e.g. we don't have their first name, we can set a default value, but it would be great if able to "exclude" any role-based ones for examples like this.

Hi @Bethany1,

Yes, this can be set up with contact-based workflows that check whether the email address contains terms like info, sales, marketing, no-reply etc.

I'm a big fan of a property that contains the entire salutation for a contact, e.g. "Dear Ms Doe". Such a property can be set via workflow by checking the gender and then concatenating the "Dear Ms" and the last name, using the "Set property value" workflow action.

Before checking the gender of a person, a workflow branch could check whether the email address contains terms like info, sales, marketing, no-reply. If yes, you would simply set the salutation to a generic "Hello" or even potentially something like "Hello" + company name.

Without workflows, this is more complicated. In that case, I'd recommend filtering for these email addresses on a regular basis using contact-lists and then emptying the first and last name fields. You can then set a default value for the personalization token in your emails, so that it defaults to "Hello", for example.
