How to Avoid Emailing Hard and Soft Bounce Contacts
SOLVE
Hi everyone,
looking for effective strategies to avoid emailing hard and soft bounce contacts in our campaigns. What methods or practices have you found successful in managing this issue? Your insights and suggestions would be invaluable!
To avoid emailing bounced contacts, create an active contact based list that includes contacts where:
Email hard bounce reason is known OR
Marketing emails bounced is greater than 0
Once you have this list, you can exclude it in the Recipients tab of the email editor.
Generally HubSpot automatically excludes bounced contacts but an exclusion will help with protecting your email health in HubSpot. Especially in the free tools, this can make the difference between your portal and email sending getting suspended or not.
Additionally, consider using tools like Neverbounce, Zerobounce, Emailhippo to validate contacts before sending emails. These tools check beforehand whether an email address might bounce.
Best regards!

There isn't much you need to do as HubSpot (and most other marketing email tools) handle this automatically.
If a contact hard bounces they will not be sent any future marketing emails.
A soft bounce is a temporary issue, meaning a certain number of attempts will be taken to deliver the email. A full breakdown of bounce types and how HubSpot handles these can be found here.
You can always check the "not sent" section in your email recipients tab to see which contacts were not send an email due to a previous bounce.
In addition you can filter contacts by hard bounce reason to a) get a hotel number of hard bounces and b) break these down by the reason for the hard bounce.
Hope that helps.
