Domain Verification Help

SOLVE

I am attempting to verify our domain for marketing email purposes. I do not want to use a subdomain as all of our email addresses are already set up and in use for a multitude of other processes and workflows, plus we do not have the budget for another subdomain or additional email addresses.

It appears from this article that there is no way to use our current emails since they use our root domain versus a subdomain, which just blows my mind. I've set up email verification in other CRMs using our root domain and it has NEVER been an issue. This is my first time using HubSpot.

Additionally, the email/domain verification has always happened using a TXT record - NOT a CNAME/A record, which is what I am being directed to use here and is obviously creating issues with the DNS.

I need a solution. Just dumped A LOT OF MONEY into this CRM and we're excited about using it but never in a million years did I expect we'd run into an issue with not being able to send from our existing emails.

Domain Verification Help

SOLVE

@AMills96 - HubSpot wants you to verify your email sending domain (your root domain) and setup DKIM and SPF records as email providers now requries it. To achieve this, you’ll add a TXT record to SPF and a CNAME record to DKIM. This won’t disrupt your existing setup, except if you delete all TXT records for SPF.

That's why HubSpot suggests combining your TXT records for SPF.

You can send email from your root domain. I don't see any issue with CNAME setup. I'd suggest following HubSpot instructions, setup and verify your email sending domain.

Domain Verification Help

SOLVE

Hi @AMills96

+1 from me on @kennedyp's question about the root domain. You simply follow the steps to connect an email sending domain, update your DNS records and that's it.

Where exactly are you encountering issues?

Domain Verification Help

SOLVE

It is requiring me to enter a CNAME for DKIM purposes, not just the TXT record (like other CRMs). I cannot add a CNAME or it affects our site availability. Trying to understand why I can't verify our email sending domain with just a TXT record.

Domain Verification Help

SOLVE

Hi @AMills96! Welcome to the Community-- happy to have you here 😊

I apologize for any frustration you have experienced while setting up your email-sending domain. Is your goal to set up an email address to send marketing emails that is not the same domain as your email address?

Could you clarify what part of the Knowledge Base article you are referring to with "no way to use our current emails since they use our root domain versus a subdomain"?

When connecting an email sending domain, HubSpot provides you with DKIM values (two CNAME records) and SPF (TXT record).

Let me know if I did not understand your questions or if you need additional clarification!

Best,

Kennedy
