Create smart content in an email that is based on data from a form

SOLVE

Hey,

Is it possible to create smart content within an email based on data from one of our forms?

  • We have a form that collects data on the type of course a student is interested in
  • They can choose up to ten different course interests (multi selection is allowed).
  • Following form completion we'd like to send them an email that contains a link to a course guide that is based on the select course interest.
  • So if they select 'course 1' and 'course 2' in the form then we'd like the email to send the the guides for 'course 1' and 'course 2'.

I know this is possible by creating lists based on the inputted course interests and then linking that to smart content. However, given we have 10 courses they can choose this will require a ton of lists and will be a pain if to refresh when we update the courses.

Is there a way to trigger the smart content purely based on the inputted course interest from the form rather than based on a list or lifycle stage?

Hi @HDawkins ,

Totally get your predicatment here. You can only choose 'list membership' or 'lifecycle' stage at the moment for smart content in an email. Since there are so many combinations of courses interests; just course 1, just course 2, courses 1 & 2, courses 1 & 6 etc this would be a lot of combinations.

Another suggestion could be to simply have 10 lists and have 10 different sections on your email with smart rules. Each section corresponds to a list so the default is blank but if you are on Course list 1 then section one is filled in, if not, it's blank and so on.

It might take some creative design to make sure the spacing doesn't look strange but just a thought!

Great point about 10 sections with smart rules! Will have a play around and see if it can come off without looking oddly spaced. Thanks!
