New rate limits for the legacy Contacts API batch create or update endpoint

In an effort to increase the security and performance of the HubSpot platform, we will be introducing new limits for the legacy endpoint for creating or updating a group of contact records.

What's changing?

We will be introducing a new limit of 20,000 records per request. While we recommend that batches should not exceed 1000 records, this endpoint currently allows for a much larger number of records to be included. Once this limit goes into effect, any request with more than 20,000 contacts will return an error. This change will not affect the number of properties that can be included for each contact record, only the number of individual contacts in the request.

Our recommendation will still be to keep batches to 1000 or fewer records, in order to keep response times low. If your integration uses this endpoint, and creates batches that could be over 20k records, you will need to break up your updates into smaller batches.

When is this happening?

The new limit will go into effect on January 17, 2022.
