Lesson 1_Introduction to Revenue Operations (RevOps).png

Here at HubSpot, we define Revenue Operations, or RevOps, as the people, processes, systems, and data that control how your business generates revenue.

That means that if you work at an organization that generates revenue, then you have RevOps at play in your business!

RevOps enables you to not only strategically improve your customer experience, but it also lets you powerfully and intentionally scale your business.

So, as I kick-off this conversation about RevOps, I’d love to learn the following about you:

  1. What’s your name, and where are you based?
  2. How do you define RevOps?
  3. What do you hope to learn in HubSpot Academy’s Revenue Operations Certification?

I'm Houston located in Chatham, NJ.   My career has been split between Deal Pricing and Product Pricing.  In Deal Pricing, your team is frequently thought of as friction but I've spent the last few years teaching my people they don't get bonuses for saying "No", they get them for finding a way to make a deal work.   Once they do, we must determine if its a process we need to fix or a true one-off.

I define RevOps in the context of what I wrote above.    There is friction in the system.  There will always be friction in the system but you need to find where it is literally just that.  I started really understanding this when we had a requirement that any deal with a $1M discount or more had to be signed off by the CEO or COO.  They were at Davos and difficult to reach so I just made the decision, did a quick writeup and sent the agreements to the customer.  The note I got back from the COO asked me who made the approval matrix and I responded thata I did.   He said "Change it....you're deeper in these deals then we are"

As I talk with peers at other companies, many have started the movement toward RevOps.  I want my team to understand it, accknowledge it and be ready to do what we can

My name is Jake Boyd I'm based in central Maryland.

RevOps encapsulates how revenue is generated (A-Z) and how the flywheel is affected by those actions.

I hope to learn what major skills I am missing so I can go further down the rabbit hole of RevOps. It would also be nice to gain some practical knowledge.

Andreas from Germany defines RevOps as a big-picture approach to Sales- Marketing- and Customer Success- Operations.
Key skills include seeing processes as a whole, acting like a detective in uncovering inefficiencies, learning loads of new stuff constantly, and communicating effectively with stakeholders. (Did I mention how important documentation is? No? Well, I should have.)
I am relatively new to this field (and most people are, I'd imagine, with only one certification program that I am aware of), and I want to be hand-held. Well, that would be the best option.
The second best option is to gain experience, frameworks, tools, and confidence to do this job effectively.
I aim for a 10x revenue return advantage for every hour I put into this course. (At least 😉 )

Happy learning y'all

Hi folks! I'm Hope and I'm based in Southern Oregon. I think about RevOps as a process of strengthening the connective tissue across teams that manage the customer lifecycle and journey. It's about creating a seamless customer experience that delights from beginning to end, and simplifying internal processes so Marketing, Sales and CS teams can run efficiently and scale. I hope to learn more specifics around identifying potential gaps or weak spots in the revenue machine, and gain a clearer understanding of what I can do in my current role to benefit (and improve) the RevOps engine at my company.
