Why can't we use Templates Names (Sales email template names) in custom reports?

SOLVE

Within custom reports we can use Sequence IDs which when used as the x-axis display as their Text names instead of their numeric IDs.

When we try to report on Templates(Sales email templates) there is no field option for Template Name. But there is Template ID, which displays on the x-axis as it's numeric ID:

The built in reporting under Templates > Analytics has the desired x-axis, but doesn't have the sorting options, filters, and general customizability that our Client needs:

These are all the field options I can see in the custom report builder:

Not sure if I'm missing something or using the wrong data source (Sales Emails) But we need a way to use Template Names on the x-axis like with the prebuilt report in custom reports. Does anyone know if there's a way to do this? Much appreciated.

Hi @BenLee,

Well you've got the right template and method of getting to it. The first question I guess would be what do your users want to get from it? What do they need that the different visualisations can't achieve?

The bar will show the key template stats, and you'll already have found the same report but broken down by agent. You can compare these by week/year and change to line/area/bar chart styles. From what it looks like from the first custom report screenshot you perhaps are looking to just pull a click report? You can filter out the different types on the template report, eg:

2025-06-03 - 09_11_59 - Reports.png

Next up would be why you need heavy customisation in the report. Are the stakeholders just explaining their requirements in a more complex way than necessary?

- "I want to know what's getting the most clicks" - shown in the screenshot above

- "I want to know what templates are not being used" - Switch the filter to "sent" in the screenshot above

- "I want to know what's generally performing best" - define what metric performance is being measured by

So anyway, the short answer is you can't do exactly what you're asking for.

The long answer is that you can export the unsummarized data from that report and do as you wish within a different report builder like Looker, and then re-import onto the dashboard. But it's not elegant and will likely not have a good effort:reward ratio!

Hi @BenLee and welcome, we are delighted to have you here! 🤗

Great question, thanks for asking the HubSpot Community!

Well done on trying different approaches, I love to see this! Which information would you like to see, as well as the name of the template, please?

For information, here is an article "Analyze your sales content with the sales content analytics tool" on the subject.

Let's see what our Top Experts in reporting can share: Hi @HubSpot_Corey, @ArtyCele and @ScottPennwood do you know of a way to see the sales email template names on the x-axis of a custom report, please? Or do you know of another way to achieve this, maybe via lists or another tool?

Have a wonderful day and thanks so much in advance for your help! ❤️
