Some sort of link tracking?

Hello, recently i subscribed on another site and i think it was using some sort of link click tracking.

Basically after the email was sent to me, i see that, after the domain, there are some sort of random strings that was redirecting to another website, i'll post an example:

domain.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XYg65366YVRJ6rx63BrF6W2z8MDM56dPCgdNB15q02

See the string after the "domain.com", i'm referring to that string.

The final answer is how i generate a link like that? With random strings?

Thanks and good day to all.

Hubspot already uses tracking url's, like your showing, in emails to track clicks by contacts. There are other ways to track links. In order to give you some suggestions, can you give more detail on your use case?

That looks like the tracking generated from the HubSpot Sales extension.  Did the email look like a personal email, or something that was automated?  This might be something to look into: https://www.hubspot.com/products/sales/email-tracking

Yes first thank you for your answer.

Yep it was something automated, like input your name and email and receive the download link for the file.

I receive the mail with random strings and after it does a redirect it appendds to the final URL this:

domain.com/?utm_campaign=blog-rss-emails&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=XXXXXX

But i want to know how to make the string, not the plain text 🙂

Most email platforms that track clicks use these. When you create an email, it replaces all links at the time of sending with a URL on a domain that's attached to their system. The links include a token that identifies the user and redirect to the original url that's in the email. They work simliar to URL shortener's like bit.ly.  However, the tracking link is tied to a person as well as a redirect URL. I'm not sure if there is a tool or service for generating these links alone? If you have a small list of people, you could use bit.ly to create a unique short url for each person.

Yep, see this domain for example, tied to hubspot:

http://t.signauxtrois.com/

But how can i do this, if i try to do it via gmail with hubspot sidekick, sending to a test email, i get the normal url and not the url with string...

Do you have an idea on how can i do it?

Thanks

Are you using the free CRM? You need Hubspot Sales Pro to track clicks. The free version just tracks opens.

Hi @Antonio_C (and thanks for the '@' @ndwilliams3)

The tracking URLs are generated in HubSpot's Tracking URL Builder tool, and then when a visitor gets to the landing page via the URL, your HubSpot Sources tool will seperate out the traffice based on the paramaters in the URL.

These are the basic parameters/components in a tracking URL that can be created from HubSpot tools:

- Campaign Name - This utm_campaign parameter groups all traffic to that URL into one campaign in Sources. Visits to this tracking URL will be attributed to this campaign name, when you click into different channels in the Sources report.

- Source - The utm_source parameter specifies which source or channel the traffic is originating from.

- Medium - The utm_medium specifies the marketing medium. This parameter is not required to bucket traffic in Sources; however visits to this tracking URL will be attributed to this marketing medium, when you click into certain channels in the Sources report.

- Content - The utm_content parameter can be used to include the name of your content in your URL for reporting purposes. This parameter does not appear in the Sources report, with the exception of the email name with the Email Marketing source.

- Term - The utm_term parameter specifies the keyword associated with the tracking URL. Term is not used in HubSpot, but can be used to track pay-per-click ads in systems like AdWords and Google Analytics.

Here is a link that should better explain the use case and how to set them up.

Hope this helps you out, let me know if you have any other questions 🙂

Yes yes i know this, i've already read this 🙂

I'm trying to make a randomized url 🙂

Lie this, for example:

domain.com/e1t/c/*W2XDNfT8NbyXmW686SkF7wL7Zd0/*N8rHjDjt3ZyhV2wKXV3NKYJm0/5/f18dQhb0Sjv793BmljW34_sfm78mq_KW72lS3T2G7wcYW27JQ0W5VmrCcW70jWXK1L1_GXW28Rm6G2WdR5DW3b7Sc12jDP4dW1jkVwN7BWtb

And after i click it i get a redirect 🙂

@Antonio_C, off the top of my head and knowledge, it looks like that may be a one-time-use url that was generated by their server's backend PHP.

HubSpot's URL builder can only generate static links so at this moment, I don't believe this would be possible. However, this could definitely be a feature that could be implemented! I'd recommend you submit this to the ideas forum, and we can see if it would be possible implement into the product.

Hope this clears things up!

@Ty, He signed up for the Sales Pro trial and needs some help getting started with click tracking on sales emails. I wasn't sure who could help him out with that.
