How to track the exact source for Deals?

resolver

We have build a form on our website that will automated generated Deals into our pipeline. At the same time, we are running multiple campaigns that lead prospect to this page, including social posts, email marketing, SEO, etc.

I understand the "Orginal Source Type" property on Deal is inherited from the associate Contact/Company. However, there are cases that we have prospects that are already in our CRM that are coming to submit this form. In which case I belive the Deal created would inherit the "Orginal Source Type" property from how the Contact is first created. Thus, it would be hard to track where the Deal is actually coming from. (How this person end up on this page to submit the form?)

Is there any way to overcome this challenge? Thanks!

How to track the exact source for Deals?

Hi @RichardChou,

You're correct, the original source data reflects the original source for the associated contact, or associated company if there is no contact, with the oldest value for the Time first seen property.

When you run campaigns that generate contacts from a company (/deal)  that is already associated with older contacts, that recent campaign activity will not be reflected in the deal Original source. HubSpot is strictly looking for the first ever interaction.

If the deal is only associated with the most recent contact(s), the Original source should show the correct campaign data on the deal. If a contact was in the system before, their deal couldn't truly be attributed to the campaign. (This would then be a matter of attribution reporting. How much should touchpoints "weigh"?)

There are of course also ways to create custom solutions here, for example by logging campaigns to a contact, company and deal and thus being able to explicitly filter for a campaign as a property value in a report. For example:

(Contact-based workflow) If a contact submitted a form associated with a specific campaign, append the value [campaign name] to a custom contact campaign property (multiple checkboxes).

(Deal-based workflow) If a deal is associated with a contact that has values in the custom contact campaign property, append those values to a custom deal campaign property.

Always keep in mind that forms will overwrite, not append information, so any custom solution that logs campaigns must always use a workflow to append, not replace.

Best regards!

Hi @RichardChou,

The 'Original sorce type' will always show you how the contact first landed into your CRM.  It will be difficult to know the original source.
Please check this contact based list filter can be of any use to you: https://prnt.sc/1b0qr2r

You can create an active list for the contacts that came intio your CRM by a particular campaign.

Hope this helps!

I have created a report that is looking at the Deal Source for everyone on our Deal Board. Based on the answer above it appears that it should be pulling in the individual associated with the Deals source but quite a few of them are stating no value. When I look into the no values a lot of them do have a Contact property Lead Source so why is that not being pulled into the report?
