Pillar pages - should they link to the home page?

Hello. Creating a new website and developing a content strategy. I'm excited to get stuck into pillar pages but I'm wondering - is it best practice for these pillar pages to be accessible from the homepage / or main navigation? Or is it just as effective if they are accessible from the relevant product/services page.

I would suggest to to the following: 

• take into account the many different ways people prefer to exchange information.
• cater to your website visitors' preferences.
• get the information you need to continue optimizing
• think about how landing pages and pillar pages can connect or communicate
