Pillar Page Architecture

Is it ok to have multiple levels of hierarchy using the topic cluster / pillar page model? By OK i mean does this make for best UX and SEO.

For example

wholesale real estate (top level pillar page)

wholesale real estate/lead generation (subtopic and pillar)

wholesale real estate/lead generation/D4D (subtopic of subtopic)

Hi @jy1. Here's how I picture what you're asking and how I'd think about it. If D4D is a related topic to the overall pillar page, I would create a blog post linking to the pillar page directly.

If instead it's not really related to "wholesale real estate," but is more closely related to "lead generation," then it's completely aceptable to use first level subtopics as their own cluster-centers and have related content linking to them, yes.

Hope that helps!

Hi @jy1

I'd say here, if your D4D topic doesn't relate to the wholesale real estate directly, and it needs a mediator topic like lead generation to link both topics, you can create multiple hierarchies.

But if your D4D topic can directly relate with the pillar topic, its better to avoid multiple hierarchies.

To give a straightforward answer to your question, multiple hierarchies can affect your UX and ultimately SEO so it's better to connect your subtopics directly with the pillar page.

But if you still want to create multiple hierarchies, you can create multiple clusters.

Hope that helps.
