Learning SEO Marketing: where to start?
SOLVE
Hi guys. I'm a fresh marketing graduate. I really want to go into marketing but I don't have any practical experience. Does anyone know where I can start from or what tools I need to learn? I would love to go into SEO marketing but I'm glueless on where to start from. Any advice please
Starting in SEO marketing can feel overwhelming but it's great that you're eager to dive in. I'd recommend to begin by learning the basics of how search engines work and familiarize yourself with key SEO concepts. HubSpot's own SEO certification is a great introduction, and platforms like Moz, Ahrefs, or SEMrush offer excellent beginner-friendly blogs and tutorials.
Also consider starting a personal blog or website. Use it as a sandbox to refine your skills. Tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Keyword Planner can help you get comfortable with data-driven decision-making. Lastly, joining freelance platforms for small SEO projects is another way to gain real-world experience while building your portfolio.
Hope this helps!

Hi @MissEnnuson, on the top of what Karsten has recommended you, I can also suggest you the following courses/sites to get started with SEO:
https://frontendmasters.com/courses/modern-seo/ --> This one is a fantastic course to introduce you to SEO. And Frontend Masters has many more web-related courses that might be useful for you! (Most of them are for developers but there are several courses for anyone interested in knowing how websites work).

Start learning SEO by understanding basics like keywords, on-page, off-page, and technical SEO. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner for research, and optimize your site’s titles, content, and speed. Focus on building backlinks and measure performance with Google Analytics. Stay updated here with SEO blogs and experts. Practice on your own website and consider certifications to boost your skills. SEO takes time but pays off in the long run.
Starting in SEO marketing can feel overwhelming at first, but with a clear plan, you’ll build both your knowledge and practical experience quickly. Here's how to get started:
Understand the Basics
Start by learning SEO fundamentals like keyword research, on-page optimization, technical SEO, and link building. Free resources like Google’s SEO Starter Guide or Moz’s Beginner's Guide to SEO are great starting points.
Practice on a Real Project
Create a blog or a small website to apply what you learn. Choose a topic you're passionate about, research keywords, and practice optimizing content, improving site structure, and tracking performance.
Learn SEO Tools
Familiarize yourself with essential tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Ubersuggest. Start with the free versions to understand keyword rankings, website health, and traffic insights.
Stay Updated
SEO evolves rapidly. Follow blogs like Search Engine Journal, Ahrefs Blog, and Neil Patel's Blog to stay informed about the latest updates and strategies.
Take Courses
Platforms like Coursera, HubSpot Academy, or Udemy offer affordable SEO marketing courses. Certifications from platforms like Google’s Skillshop or HubSpot add value to your resume.
Network and Join Communities
Engage in SEO communities like Reddit's r/SEO or marketing groups on LinkedIn. Ask questions, learn from experienced professionals, and build your network.
Start Freelancing or Interning
Offer your SEO skills to local businesses or as a freelancer on platforms like Upwork or Fiverr. This will give you practical experience and build your portfolio.
SEO marketing is as much about learning as it is about experimentation. Start small, keep testing strategies, and build your confidence as you see results.
