Can Page Speed Scores Impact How Often Google Recrawls My Site?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been optimizing my eCommerce site and noticed some improvements in page speed (both mobile and desktop). I’m curious—can better page speed scores actually influence how frequently Googlebot crawls my site? Does a faster-loading site encourage Google to recrawl more often, or is crawl frequency mostly based on other factors like content updates or backlinks?

Hi @DSmith994! I'm curious to see what others will say, but a site that responds quickly should have an increased Crawl Limit and therefore encourages Googlebot to crawl more pages and more often 🙂

In short, page speed certainly helps but keep in mind that Google decides how often to check (or “crawl”) your site based on a few main things:

Crawl Budget – This is basically the number of pages Google is willing to look at on your site during a certain time. That depends on:

  • How fast your site responds – If your site is slow or has issues, Google won’t crawl as much.
  • How much interest there is – If your content is popular or changes a lot, Google is more interested in crawling it.

Content Updates – If you’re regularly adding or updating pages—especially important ones—Google notices and tends to come back more often.

Links & Traffic – Pages that get a lot of visitors usually get crawled more often.

Site Speed & Health – If your site loads quickly and doesn’t have errors, Google can crawl it more easily and efficiently.
