What's your creative process?

Having a process also allows you to think of ideas that may not be easily apparent. What's one thing you do to help come up with new ideas? How can you incorporate this into a repeatable framework (for yourself as well as those you collaborate with)?

I do a lot of research jot down the keywords and important points and whenever I'm busy doing some house chores rather than my blog work I always make sure to make notes on my phone to later pin it down.

I read a lot on the topic from Quora and Medium. Take notes of what I find interesting and informative along with keeping in mind of the topics I can write on.

Usually, I do my research and take down notes, and maybe jumble them up and add something of my own. And then I make sure that it somehow makes sense. If it does not, I work on it the next day.

I do a lot of freewriting. And often it's on whatever pops into my head at a given moment. However, when given an assignment, I'll free write on the assigned topic. Then I let it rest for a bit before going back and polishing it a bit.

I read a lot, fiction, nonfiction, marketing topics, and because I'm an IT marketer, I'll read a lot of tech news. Technology can be a dry topic to write about so I love finding pieces that are actual stories where technology plays a starring role. I like seeing how other technology writers frame their stories. Although I haven't heard of the Content Generation Method illustrated in the HubSpot video, I can say that my process is pretty close to the one outlined. I guess I just never realized my process was a process - and mine definitely involves more free writing.

I use "google alerts" associated with my industry to help me come up with new topic ideas. My audience loves being informed on a new marketing or social media trend for the businesses. Utilizing those alerts helps me to effortlessly gather the information that I need in one place...my inbox!

Usually, I do my research and take down notes, and when I can't come up with anything viable, I go to sleep but I am going to be more intentional about the unconscious processing part of the 4 step ideation process.

- Enjoy group with topics related to the field you want to do.

- Find conflicts and resolve them. It will bring many good and unique ideas.

- Travel, relax, Go for a walk. A relaxed spirit will give you great ideas

I incorporate this into a repeatable framework  by:

- Write down all the ideas big and small.

- Break down the steps of new ideas

- See if there are steps related to the extra frame.

- Steps that are not related to the frame are arranged in order of naming 'notes'

I don't think it's necessary to follow the frame too much. It will cause you to lose a lot of good ideas and creativity

So, I have a note book where I write down all small and big ideas. But at work, as a process, whenever something comes up in my mind - triggered by something I read or some business conversation - I write a small note and block time in the next couple of days on my calendar. This time is to give this idea some more thought - to actually translate the "idea" into "action". Most times I may end up chucking it as after consideration the idea may not be as appealing. But then, when it works, I do go ahead and bring in my team.

Everyday I voraciously listen to audiobooks when doing mindless work, later I use an ankicard deck to place all of my eureka ideas and revise them overtime.

Writing outlines has been the biggest single thing that has enhanced the content I produce. Even after I discovered this, for some reason I kept trying to write content without outlines. It's one extra step, and it really makes your content stand out versus content that was written without an outline, I finally learned. Now that I have a job that requires outlines, it's built-in for me. And the content I produce is light years better for it. I'm not sure what it is about outlines. They provide structure, a plan, organization. You make a skeletal structure before you create the final product, just like a construction worker would use a blueprint, or his homes would come out haphazard and odd-looking if they even stood at all. So, outlines are gold mines for killer content.

The first thing i do in other to generate new ideas for any of my work is to surf the internet. I love reading resourceful articles about the field of that idea and i write down relevant informations; because what i dont write, i barely remember. My last approach is to collate all i'm able to get, reconstruct them to what i want. #Really, James Webb Young was right when he said, "An idea is a new combination of old elements".

One thing I do that constantly help me come up with new ideas is researching the subtopics around the topic and write down any creative concept or ideas for content without judging these ideas. I think overthinking the possibility and criticizing ideas in the beginning can shy away the creative aspect. An idea journal is what I have been thinking to do because some ideas work best in certain timing. A lot of times, new idea is a combination of several old ideas that have proven to yield results.

My process is quite fluid. I write things down in my notepad when I get an idea or record it on my dictaphone. I carry these everywhere as inspiration can appear anywhere and often does. I like to empty my mind when going for a walk or on my exercise bike. This takes the pressure to come up with something from my right side brain.
