Storytelling framework in action

Regardless of the story you’re trying to tell and how you’re trying to tell it, storytelling has three essential elements:

  • Characters
  • Conflict
  • Resolution

Choose one of your favorite brands, and tell their business's story by answering the below questions.

  • Who is the brand?
  • Who is their audience?
  • What challenge are they helping their audience to overcome? How are they doing it?

Most schools across the country are at or over capacity, short on funds, and are struggling to get their students to master crucial academic milestones. It's safe to say that all educators agree that cultivating a love of reading in their students is crucial, yet many wrestle with the 'how.' Enter, Read-a-thon -- an online school fundraising platform that allows schools to raise money through donations by encouraging students to read. The concept is simple: Sign up for free, get kids reading, and raise more funds for your school. Professional educators like librarians, school administrators, teachers, and support staff love Read-a-thon fundraisers because they align with their literacy goals, don't require any money upfront or fundraising minimums, and are so easy to promote and implement -- not to mention that they help schools raise thousands of dollars!

  • Who is the brand? My absolute favorite brand right now happens to be Steve Madden. Steve Madden is a person but developed more into a known brand name for Shoes, accesories and hand bags.
  • Who is their audience? Their target audience is young men and women that are relatively fashion conscious.
  • What challenge are they helping their audience to overcome? How are they doing it? Although they are consdired higher prices, the challenges they are offereing is a young generation wanting to purchase quality and stylish shoes, accesssoires without spending thousands. They provide high fashion at a lower cost that other brands.

The brand that I have chosen is Tik Tok. There audience is the younger generation. They appeal to the youth because they use real stories and post in real time about places, businesses, everyday people and products. With using TikTok the videos are short and the message is relatable.
The challenges that we are experiencing is information gap. These are bringing people together from everywhere to keep us informed about what is happening in the real world. You will be able to recieve videos about the war in the Middle East and laws and policies that are being implemented from countries all over the world. Using Tik Tok is even helping to close the wage gap. Users are able to be paid for the content they create right in the comfort there home. It is helping single mothers stay at home and raise their children because they have the flexibility of working from home.

Who is the Brand: Upwork

A freelance platform

Who is their audience: Freelancers and employers

There’s no peace like going into Thanksgiving weekend knowing your highly skilled freelancers have everything on lock while you are OOO.

What challenge are they helping to overcome?
Upwork helps to overcome job scarcity unemployment as well as ease the hunt for freelancers and long term employees on short notice.

How are they doing it?
First of all, I'll start by analyzing the X post above.
Character: The character is the audience, using second person POV.
Conflict: No one wants to go to thanksgiving with work on their mind. In the post above, the conflict is thanksgiving and an unfinished work project with probably a fast-approaching deadline.
Resolution: Upwork offers "highly skilled freelancers" who would take the burdens off your shoulders so you can enjoy your thanksgiving dinner.
Back to the question. Upwork solves the problem of unemployment by creating a platform that allows anyone to register and apply for jobs and freelance gigs from people like the audience in the X post, as well as startup companies and more. Employed individuals can still use Upwork for side income.

La Roche-Posay:

On their website, there's a section called: Our Commitments, in which they state their mission. It reads:

LIFE-CHANGING SKINCARE RECOMMENDED BY DERMATOLOGISTS

At La Roche-Posay, we know that a skin problem can impact people’s life in so many ways. So, when we make different for their skin, it can change their whole life. And when we made a different for the 2 billion people facing skin issues, it makes a difference in the world.
And it all starts with opening the door for one person, one skin problem, one life at a time.
https://www.laroche-posay.com.au/our-commitments.html

So this is my analysis:

  • They use first person POV: they create authority positioning themselves as the life-changing skincare brand (That's the character, the hero of the story)
  • Audience: People with problems in their skin. From newborns to cancer patients. All skin types, all people
  • Conflict: skin problems affect people’s lives in so many ways
  • Resolution: They understand the impact of the conflict. For that reason, they join forces with the medical community to bring the most advanced dematological knowledge to their products. With their authentic care, they open their doors to one person, one skin problem and life at a time.
  • How are they doing? They are actually doing pretty well because consumers can actually select from a wide range of skincare products that suit their specific needs. And each buyer trusts that they are buying high-quality products!
  • I would like to highligh that although this is a good storytelling, they have grammar issues on their statement LOL

Duolingo is a language-learning platform.

Who is their audience?

Duolingo’s audience is wide-ranging, including people of all ages who want to learn a new language.

What challenge are they helping their audience to overcome?

Duolingo helps its users overcome the challenge of learning a new language, which can often feel intimidating, expensive, or time-consuming. Traditionally, language learning required formal classes, expensive tutors, or long-term commitments. Duolingo uses a unique, gamified approach to language learning. Through bite-sized lessons, users can learn vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in an engaging, interactive way. By breaking language learning into manageable chunks, Duolingo makes it easier for people to fit language practice into their daily routines. Plus, its free access to all the core lessons makes it more inclusive, allowing everyone to learn without financial barriers.

Brand is impatient

Target audience are founders or anyone too occupied with work yet craves more knowledge in business, history etc but don't have the time to do so

The challenge they help overcome is extract highly practical content from business/history/psychology books, podcasts, articles and many more and turn them into blog posts, weakly newsletter.
