Improving your content creation process

Your content creation process should be something that's clear, repeatable, and organized. It's important to evaluate your process from time to time to see how it can be improved (for you and those you collaborate with).

Before you create your next piece of content, what's one thing you could do to improve your current process? For me, I'm going to create a survey via a Google form and send it to those I collaborate with to get their feedback. The easier I am to collaborate with, the more people will want to work with me.

Improving your content creation process

I understand clearly that creating a content creation framework is paramount to sustaining short-term and long-term goals in any content-related campaign. Conceptualizing ideas, setting a timeline, creating a workflow for the completion of work, reviewing and editing, and finally organising and storing content helps in staying us thorughly organised throughout our campaign.

Improving your content creation process

What's one thing I could do to improve my current process? I plan to create pre-deadlines at regular intervals — thereby organizing a plan at a more granular level. Consequently, my now-more-helpful content will be a regular, consistent presence on social media — helping to foster trust between clients and me.

think of a median to best reach the target audience considering the decision stage they are at,
such as blogs or video. then create a calendar on who does what, make it clearly defined and
easilly accessable by all.

When they finish their task, let it be in a hub anyone can access
(google drive / dropbox). Also, to make sure the website is shown to as many people, do SEO
checks to make sure its optimized before final publish.

Improving your content creation process

Improving your content creation process involves several key steps and strategies to enhance efficiency, creativity, and effectiveness. Here’s a structured approach you can follow:

1. Define Your Objectives and Audience

  • Objectives: Clarify why you are creating content (e.g., brand awareness, lead generation, education).
  • Audience: Understand who your target audience is (demographics, interests, pain points).

2. Content Planning and Strategy

  • Content Calendar: Establish a schedule for content creation and publication.
  • Keyword Research: Identify relevant topics and keywords to optimize SEO.
  • Content Formats: Determine which types of content (blogs, videos, podcasts) align best with your goals and audience preferences.
  • Content Pillars: Define core topics/themes that align with your brand’s expertise and audience needs.

3. Research and Ideation

  • Competitor Analysis: Study what content works well for competitors and how you can differentiate.
  • Trend Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate timely topics into your content.
  • Brainstorming: Encourage creative sessions to generate new ideas and angles for your content.

4. Content Creation

  • Outlining: Create a detailed outline or structure for your content to maintain focus.
  • Writing/Producing: Write, record, or design content according to the established plan.
  • Visual Assets: Incorporate relevant visuals (images, infographics, charts) to enhance engagement and understanding.

5. Editing and Optimization

  • Proofreading: Review content for grammar, spelling, and clarity.
  • SEO Optimization: Optimize content for relevant keywords, meta descriptions, and readability.
  • Formatting: Ensure content is visually appealing and easy to consume on various devices.

6. Review and Approval

  • Quality Check: Have a review process to ensure content meets brand standards and objectives.
  • Legal/Compliance: Ensure content complies with legal requirements (e.g., copyright, data protection).

7. Publishing and Distribution

  • Scheduling: Publish content at optimal times based on audience behavior and analytics.
  • Promotion: Share content across relevant channels (social media, email newsletters, etc.) to maximize reach.
  • Engagement: Monitor and respond to audience feedback and interactions promptly.

8. Analysis and Iteration

  • Performance Metrics: Track key metrics (traffic, engagement, conversions) to evaluate content effectiveness.
  • Feedback: Solicit and analyze feedback from your audience to refine future content.
  • Iterate: Continuously improve your content creation process based on insights and learnings.

Tips for Efficiency:

  • Tools: Use content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and project management tools to streamline workflows.
  • Templates: Develop templates for different types of content to maintain consistency and save time.
  • Batching: Group similar tasks (e.g., research, writing) together to minimize context switching and improve productivity.
  • Delegate: Assign tasks to team members or outsource certain aspects of content creation to experts when feasible.

By following these steps and incorporating efficiency-enhancing practices, you can optimize your content creation process to consistently produce high-quality content that resonates with your audience and achieves your business objectives.

Improving your content creation process

Having a place to see the progress, ownership, feedback and performance is where half the magic is as taught in the course. Apart from those, I would try to get other stakeholders involved in the content process, depending on the product or service we're offering.

After all, content is made to be consumed by those who buy our service, so it's logical to make those who provide that service be involved in our content process. Having spot reviews by developers, the product team, the research team and the data team will help us refine our content in ways we'd not guessed before.

A couple of reviews per week by other departments and diligent upkeep with their review and feedback will help content be more polished, personalized, and practical. This is regarding the quality and relevance of the content we create.

And coming to the process of getting it done, Notion worked great in my previous organization. Having a Kanban board helps visualise the progress and status of each task and makes it easier to managers get an overall idea on how things are progressing.

At my previous company, our content creation Excel sheet included a dedicated sheet for marking annual international holidays such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, and Thanksgiving, among others. When a special holiday was approaching, we would design holiday e-cards in advance and create a dedicated newsletter or blog post about the holiday. These posts typically included a promotion of our products. This approach helped to humanize our company and foster a closer connection with our customers.

I have to be honest and say that I need to take a step back and create a solid framework for my content. I've been rushing from piece to piece just to get something out, but what I really need is more planning and structure.

Improving your content creation process.

I believe the whole point of content creation is toward a targeted audience. Therefore to improve my content creation process. I would put up a platform where my targeted audience can freely criticize my content and possibly come up with new or original ways by which I can improve upon my content and it's delivery. And secondly, I would also do well to respond to every comment made by my targeted audience without bias. And then attempt to implement some of the best ideas.

This method I believe will not only improve my content delivery but also create a sense of warmth within my targeted audience. As they see me actively responding and interacting with them to create an altogether more engaging experience.

I would plan my content and make use of a content calendar to make sure that I am staying consistent and sticking to due dates or deadlines. I would also research my buyer persona to create content that is relevant to them.
