Improving your content creation process

Your content creation process should be something that's clear, repeatable, and organized. It's important to evaluate your process from time to time to see how it can be improved (for you and those you collaborate with).

Before you create your next piece of content, what's one thing you could do to improve your current process? For me, I'm going to create a survey via a Google form and send it to those I collaborate with to get their feedback. The easier I am to collaborate with, the more people will want to work with me.

Improving your content creation process

For me I think improving my process is to create something like a checklist or templates that outlines each step of my editing. So in that way, I'll be more organize as I do something and to be more efficient and get better results on everything I do.

I would like to collect more primary data, specifically through one-on-one interviews with randomly selected respondents. I am convinced that this will help us collect original, raw and realistic data, which is what we currently need. We can then analyse the data and see what we uncover. Secondary data can then help to support our findings.

A content calendar seems like the logical way to go, but never occured to me to do. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail. I need to know what my month looks like to not miss any deadlines and hold myself accountable. Every day needs a plan, only then i will be successful.

One thing i would do to improve the current process is to create a content calendar. This would help to organise everything without missing any small details, also would help with progress tracking, deadline tracking, and spotting any deviations accured in the process.

Create an outline before i begin which will help prganize my ideas and make sure my message is clear. Incorporating word reserach can also help improve my content's SEO, making it more discoverable. Finally i will take my time to review and refine my work.

To improve content creation, start by setting clear goals and conducting thorough research. Plan ahead using a content calendar to ensure consistency. Organize content with storytelling for better engagement. Streamline your process by batching tasks like video production or writing, and use templates to save time. Leverage automation tools for scheduling, SEO optimization, and content promotion, while collaboration platforms like Notion or Trello can enhance team efficiency. Regularly track content performance through analytics tools to understand what resonates with your audience and refine future content accordingly. Continuous improvement and smart tool use drive greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Improving your content creation process

Something I can do to enhance the process I am doing currently is to look at which of the past content really proved popular and useful in the eyes of the audience. Therefore, I will be able to understand what did well, revise my message, and concentrate on establishing better and more interesting content.

What's one thing you could do to improve your current process?

I could improve my current content creation process by repurposing content. For instance, I could turn a blog post into a video, create social media snippets from a longer piece, or compile related posts into an eBook.

I would start implementing a content calendar that outlines the entire process from start to finish, allowing for editing by the entire team. This calendar would serve as a timeline, clearly indicating the completion status of each step. It would include detailed specifications, such as each task, its start and completion dates, and the individual responsible for it. This approach aims to enhance communication and alleviate frustrations related to status inquiries.

The team performance is all about collaboration. There are a number of things that contribute towards helping a team perform. The first factor that helps a team to perform is communication. Open and free communication helps the team members to understand each other’s point of view and understand what is required from them. Similarly clear goals also helps the teams to perform well as the people are clear about what they need to do and what performance is expected from them. The leadership in the team also matters a lot as it is the team leaders that help in keeping the teams together and create collaboration amongst them. Leaders also motivate and provide guidelines for the teams to work. Apart from this accountability, resources and training also helps the teams to perform. The absence of all these factors results in the non performing teams. Hence it is required that these factors should be kept in mind for helping the teams to perform better.

Improving your content creation process

I've listed several things below that I use to improve my content creation process that others might find useful. As I wrote this, I realized that one area I should probably improve on is to zoom in more on buyer personas and customer profiles.

DEADLINES AND HEADLINES

I work with many clients, all with thier own ideas and systems. I might use project management tools such as Trello and MeisterTask and cloud storage and file sharing services like Google Drive. It can be useful for freelance writers to expose themselves to different clients, tools, and processes.

All my content creation processes start with noting the deadline, if there is one. Most of my work follows client briefs that can be vague or detailed. If the brief is missing details of the target audience, I will ask before proceeding. In every case, a new piece begins with a main topical header followed by sub-headers.

WHAT GOES WHERE AND WHY

I will determine from the outset what structure to use. For example:

  • Inverted pyramid
  • Chronological
  • Problem-solution
  • Compare & contrast
  • Questions & answers

Next, I note where to break up blocks of text with other useful elements, like tables, graphs, and photos. I may insert a few "notes to self" and links to reputable resources before I start writing.

MINIMIZING REVISIONS AND DELAYS

The less an editor or proofreader has to work on the first draft, the better. Knowing what is expected from others in the process helps minimize revisions and delays. Thus, I'm always mindful of irrelevant content, duplication, and fluff.

ADHERING TO GUIDELINES

As I prepare the outline, I remain mindful that most blogs and articles work better as hybrid content. That simply means content that caters to both deep readers and skimmers. The latter prefer to scan the main points. Still, client briefs may request styles that you wouldn't choose if you had the freedom to write how you please. So, I always adhere to guidelines to save time and avoid misunderstanding. If there's a lot to remember, a simple checklist of dos and don'ts makes the process much smoother.

CRAFTING A FLEXIBLE WRITING PROCESS

My process is not set in stone and may change as I start writing. The point is to have all the elements in place to give me something to work with. Once complete, the first draft gets passed to an editor or proofreader for review.

I would begin by creating a content calendar, and I would use an Excel spreadsheet with all team members to make sure the process was as seamless as possible, I would sometimes be unsure if certain data was being submitted on the necessary timeline which would cause stress and panic. If I implemented this system my team members would be able to be held accountable a lot better and this would remove wasted communication on simple tasks where the process could be automated

Improving your content creation process

Improving your content creation process involves understanding  the 4 p's—product, price, place, and promotion- and understanding your target audience. Based on the 4 p's and your target audience, one can develop compelling content that would align to their brand and product.

Improving your content creation process

Set a specific, actionable goal and a clear timeline. Think about it from the perspective of a General fighting a war. Winning the war is the overall objective, yet to gauge progress, I need to win individual battles first. The more battles I win, the higher the probability of reaching my goals, though there’s always a chance I could lose the war.

Before going to war, it’s wise to establish clear objectives. I would read the topographical maps to identify rivers, foliage for cover, and natural structures to use for setting up offensive forces with protection. I would also send scouts to gather information on potential weak points in the enemy’s defenses and assess what they might use for offense.

Once I’ve gathered this intelligence, I can analyze how much of my resources to commit to each battle, write up damage reports, and ultimately focus on winning the war. I value strategic thinking when it comes to improving my content creation process.
