How can you extend the value of your next piece of content?

As a copywriter, I like to think of ways to get the most out of a single piece of content. For example, if I write a blog post, I can repurpose it into a variety of formats. I could turn the key points into social media posts or a carousel for Instagram. I might create a video summary for YouTube or TikTok, or even design a downloadable checklist or infographic based on the blog’s content. If the topic is detailed, I might turn it into a podcast episode or a webinar. Repurposing helps extend the life of content and reach different audiences on different platforms.

How can you extend the value of your next piece of content?

To repurpose a piece of content effectively, I could take a blog post about jewelry marketing and transform it into several different formats. For example, I could break key points into bite-sized tips or quotes for social media posts on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. I could also create an infographic summarizing the blog’s content to make the information more visually digestible and shareable. Additionally, turning the blog content into a video would allow me to explain the key concepts in a more engaging way, which could be shared on platforms like YouTube or Instagram Stories. Another idea would be to convert the post into a podcast episode, providing more depth and discussion on the topic. Finally, I could condense the blog post into a newsletter for email subscribers, highlighting the main takeaways and linking back to the full article. By repurposing content in these ways, I can reach different audience segments and maximize the impact of each piece created.

How can you extend the value of your next piece of content?

I am not a marketer by trade -- I am a web developer and more recently an IT Manager and became a HubSpot administrator as I chose HubSpot for our CRM. To that end, I thought I would learn more about marketing and market my abilities better than I have. So, my answers in this may not have a ton of insight, but I just need to go for it.

From what I can tell, it seems that a great and relatively simple way to extend and repurpose content is to start with a blog on some topic. Then take the topic and build it out, do a deeper dive -- do this after 12 months or so. You then update the original blog with a link to wherever you put the longer piece of content -- a guide, whitepaper, presentation, etc.

In my simple, non-marketing mind, it does a whole lot:

  • You now have 2 places where you talk about the topic, increasing your chances of it being found in a search.
  • The longer, more in-depth piece of content works to affirm domain expertise.
  • You can kill two birds with one stone when updating your original blog with a link to the whitepaper, presentation, infographic, etc:
    1. Well, duh, add the link to the guide or whitepaper.
    2. Since your there, historically optimize the blog as well. This will work to refresh the content and potentially increase the ranking within search results -- Google rewards freshness.

I will recreate my content into social posts, videos, podcast, emails or even infographics with different headline to maximise the reach of our audiences. Of these different type of content, we can monitor the feedbacks or comment from the audience. The feedbacks and comments can further suggest smaller supporting content or even updates in how we present our initial content to make it more relevent to our audiences.

I will improve all the mistakes I made in earlier content by carefully reviewing and refining my approach. Additionally, I’ll focus on extending the value of my next piece by repurposing it into different formats, such as videos or social media posts, to reach a broader audience. I’ll also ensure to promote it across multiple channels, engage my audience with interactive elements, and link to related content to drive further traffic. By implementing these strategies, I aim to create more valuable, impactful content moving forward

Make sure to use the right means to share it to the right platforms/audiences; social media, television, in-app, etc.

How can you extend the value of your next piece of content?

I really loved the metaphors and examples in this lesson about content recycling. This is something that I already do, but didn't have the words to express how it all interconnects. Now, I'll be more intentional about how I recycle content. Most places I've worked have done this in a backwards design way, where they created the content offer first, and we broke that up into pieces to recycle in a variety of short-form media. However, I really appreciate the flipped perspective.

To extend the value of my content, I would start incorporating podcasts into my work. It is very informative to listen to other people and hear their personal experiences and ideas. I would also utilize social media platforms, such as LinkedIn.

Depending on the audience that the repurposed content is targeting, I can think of two ideal options.

If you are targeting younger individuals, prioritizing short-form content on platforms such as TikTok or Instagram would be beneficial. Additionally, turning situations into memes when applicable could provide the poster with feelings of authenticity from their viewer.

Secondly, if it is being repurposed for older individuals, I believe making posts that appeal on emotions or relatability can go far. By practicing this on platforms such as Facebook, we can spread our content further.

It is important to ensure the content's copy is clear and concise across all platforms as well.

How can you extend the value of your next piece of content?

I have the ability to transform a blog post into various formats for social media updates, such as an infographic or a quick video suitable for TikTok or Reels. If I'm in the mood to try something different, I could adapt it into a podcast episode. For a more substantial project, I could compile narrated entries into an e-book. Additionally, I can share excerpts in my newsletter or turn the material into a question-and-answer format. If I aim to engage my audience further, I could create a quiz or poll.

How can you extend the value of your next piece of content?

Extending the value of your next piece of content involves leveraging it in multiple ways to increase its reach, longevity, and impact. Here are tailored strategies:

1. Repurpose the Content

  • Turn it into smaller pieces: Break the content into bite-sized posts for social media, email newsletters, or blog excerpts.
  • Transform formats: Convert a blog post into a video, podcast, infographic, or carousel.
  • Create a series: Use it as the foundation for a content series or ongoing discussion.

2. Boost Discoverability

  • SEO optimization: Include relevant keywords, meta descriptions, and internal links to ensure the content ranks well in search engines.
  • Create a pillar page: Use the content as part of a comprehensive hub on your website that links to related resources.
  • Target niche platforms: Share it in communities, forums, or industry-specific platforms where your audience is active.

3. Engage Your Audience

  • Ask for feedback: Encourage comments, questions, or debates on social media or your website.
  • Host a live session: Use the content as the basis for a webinar, Q&A, or live stream.
  • Create follow-up content: Answer common questions or dive deeper into popular aspects of the piece.

4. Use It as a Relationship-Building Tool

  • Collaborate: Share the content with partners or influencers and ask them to weigh in or share with their audience.
  • Outreach: Send it to prospects, customers, or collaborators as a helpful resource.
  • Feature it in newsletters: Use your content to keep your email subscribers engaged.

5. Extend Its Shelf Life

  • Make it evergreen: Focus on timeless topics or update it periodically with fresh information.
  • Re-promote: Share it on different platforms over time, using new angles or hooks.
  • Bundle it: Combine it with similar pieces to create a guide, whitepaper, or ebook.

6. Leverage Analytics for Refinement

  • Track performance: Use insights from views, clicks, and engagement to refine your content strategy.
  • A/B test variations: Experiment with different headlines, CTAs, or visuals to see what drives more impact.
  • Spot trends: Use data to identify what resonated most and double down on those topics.
