how to make an invoice with line items with tax and add one time discount to record deposit paid

I have an invoice with line items with taxes and I want to add a one time discount after subtotal to show that a deposit has been paid on this invoice, then send the invoice to the client so the balance can be paid. Pretty straight forward invoicing. Hubsport doesnt allow me to have line items which have taxes and add a one time discount after subtotal. I've tried creating a discount code, but it's not possilbe to apply a discount code to an existing invoice. I've tried partial payment, but the partial payment doesnt appear on the inovice and once the partial payement is recorded, I cant edit or delete the invoice. How can I show that a depsoit has bene paid on an exisitng invoice which has line items with tax. It should be simple. I've lost three days with robots, advisors and articles none of which can answer this question but give me a lot of "worksarounds" which take up a lot of time but do not solve the problem. Please help!

Thank you so much Diana! I've read the articles on invoicing, taxes, discounts and line items and asked the robot, but no help there. I hope some one has an idea. `I can’t believe that not one of the thousands users of Hubspot has sold something with tax and a client made a partial or deposit payment. Very straight forward invoicing practice.
