I found a way... I was using the "Payments" button in an Email to get a button link, but this way does not provide a means to specify a Deal.
It's a more manual set up, but if I manually associate a Line Item and Create a Quote, then the Quote link's slug will get picked up as specific to the Deal - so I can copy that to a new custom Deal field once manually created, then the entry of the Quote URL to the new custom Deal property can act as a trigger to send an Email with a Button which would support a button link using a {{personalization_token}} with the new custom deal property's value 🙂
@MisterKennedy so that toggle when creating payment links creates net new deals entirely - it does not allow for you to associate payment records with existing deals at all. Check out the "create a simplified payment link" section here for a quick walkthrough of creating payment links from existing deals so that payment records associate with the deals from which that payment link was created

There sure is @MisterKennedy , in fact we just rolled out a feature we're calling "simplified payment links" that allow for you to create a payment link from the right sidebar in just 4 clicks from a contact, company or deal record. The payment records created as a result of that payment link being filled out will automatically associate with the record from which that payment links was created. So in order to have payment records associated with a specific deal, go ahead and just create it from that deal and you should be all set!

Automate the association of a Payment to a Deal?
SOLVE
@JackCoopersmith I have a Deal-based automation workflow. When a deal is enrolled, it gets sent an Automated Email that contains a Payment Link. When I use this Payment Link, however, the Payment does not get associated with the Deal that was enrolled in the Workflow.
In the configuration of the Payment Link, I have the option to create new Deals turned off, but I am wondering if I should turn it on? Asking because the option description is ambiguous:
Allow this link to create new deals
When a customer pays, the payment will show on associated deals. If a deal doesn't exist, we'll create a new one.
It reads as if it is saying that when turned off no Deal associating happens either?
With the option OFF, I end up with no association to the deal
With the option ON AND with the matching Contact email entered into the Payment Link, I end up with a NEW deal 😞
Any idea why my Payments are not getting associated to the Deal that was enrolled in the Automated workflow?
