uploading contact database

SOLVE

Hi all, I'm new here on HubSpot and I'm uploading a list of contacts. It comes from my website, where the Name tag is mapped as "Name and Surname".... argh! When uploading the csv I should decide whether to tag that column as the Name one. According to your experience would it still map my contacts' activities and match them correctly when doing other actions online? What do you suggest me to do according to your experience?

Thanks a lot!

happy to help @VGerace, it sounds like you need to do some data cleansing before importing your CSV.

rather than map "name and surname" to "first name" or "last name" it would be better if you could use Excel or Google Sheets to brak apart the name and surname into separate columns.

I would start by scrubbing the data in a blank sheet - copy the column and then use the text to columns feature with the space as the separator to see if any of the contacts have 3+ names, those will need to be manually corrected to have only a first and last name.

Once you have the data updated in your CSV you can then import to HubSpot without an issue.

With all of that said, HubSpot uses "email" as the unique ID for contacts, so if your spreadsheet has the email value and the contact already exists in HubSpot with a first and last name, you wouldn't need to import those columns again.
