tagging contacts no longer with a company

In our Hubspot setup, we tie most contacts to their associated company.  I am looking for a way to section off contacts that are no longer with this company so they don't appear to be an active contact but are still associated so we can keep the email communication with the company.   As new sales reps get assigned accounts, I am trying to make it clear who the current contacts are vs contacts that have left.  I wasn't sure if I could use a Custom Object and section off those contacts.

Hi @MNoonan8,

Creating a custom object for these contacts would likely unnecessarily increase complexity.

Here's what I'd recommend instead:

• Unsubscribe the contact from all emails to avoid a hard bounce: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/contacts/how-do-i-unsubscribe-or-opt-out-contacts-from-email (HubSpot automatically excludes unsubscribed contacts from marketing emails.)
• Pin a note to the top of the contact with information about the contact leaving the company, potentially a link to their new contact record at a new company: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/contacts/pin-a-note-in-a-record
• Set a value in a custom property (e.g. "Contact left company", single checkbox), to be able to easily identify these contacts.
• Set the contact to non-marketing: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/contacts/set-contacts-as-non-marketing
