Why is task not deleted when contact unenrolled from sequence?

Just wondering why tasks appear to remain in my tasks list when I unenroll a contact from a sequence?

This is a very frustrating behaviour from Hubspot and can seriously cause some issues when you purposefully remove a contact because you do not want to contact them, yet they still have a task that needs to be completed from that sequence.

Is there a way around this? I'm worried I'll accidentally email someone I shouldn't because of this.

This is something that's been frustrating HS users for quite awhile by the looks of it.

One of my users has been asking for this as well; it would be great to have the option to unenroll & close associated tasks.

Hi @Bürobert and thanks for sharing your feedback and highlighting this workflow need, you're definitely not alone in wanting more control over task management when unenrolling contacts from sequences.

Currently, when a contact is unenrolled from a sequence, any associated tasks remain open and must be closed manually. Many users, like yourself, have requested an option to automatically close or delete those tasks as part of the unenrollment process.

While this feature isn't available yet, I recommend sharing and upvoting this idea "Automatically delete tasks related to Contacts when Unenrolled from Sequence" (@KatieK shared it also on this thread), where our product team reviews suggestions directly from users.

I have added my upvote to this Idea, I hope it helps!

We truly appreciate your input, insights like this help make HubSpot better for everyone!

Hi @MNar. I've found this shortcoming in HubSpot with a client as well. There's also a "bug" that once a contact is enrolled, and you change their first name, the change doesn't happen in the scheduled emails.

I don't know of a workaround, other than when you unenroll them, make sure you go to all of their tasks and delete or complete them.

You can also submit this to the ideas forum here, where product managers monitor requests.

Thanks Dan. Just experienced the issues with the name change, and also a bug where the email from an old task populated to a new task in a new sequence. Will submit, thanks!

Hi @MNar

If the task was created before the contact was unenrolled, the task will remain.

If tasks are created outside the sequence, how do those get created and how are contacts getting enrolled in a sequence.

What is the structure of your sequence? As the name implies the order of actions is sequential, so if you send an email, create a task, then unenrol the contact - the contact will have been sent an email and have a task associated with it.

You say "I'm worried I'll accidentally email someone I shouldn't because of this." - Does this mean the task is to email the contact? Can you elaborate a bit on the overall process?

Thanks

Frank

Hi Frank, the process looks like this: I'll enroll a contact in a sequence, at the moment the first step is a linkedin connection when I also send a message. If a prospect respond to my LI message, I of course want to unenroll them from the sequence so that they're not being contacted on other channels when they've responded on one.

So then after receiving the message, I unenroll then manually from the sequence and log the LI message response and create a follow up for LI. However, the next step in the sequence is an email task and that remains in the task queue - I have to manually delete it.
