We have just been to an event and i can't seem to add contacts in and stipulate where the contact was sourced from : i.e. shipping event... it seems odd this wouldn't already be available in the 'add contact' frame, so is this a bug, am i looking in the wrong place or does it genuinely not exist?!

Hi @TSatellite,
HubSpot has three primary contact source:
Each of these sources automatically populate and cannot be manually updated. To track offline lead sources we created a custom contact property to add events we attend.
Hope this helps.

2019 UPDATE: Original Source may now be edited (with limitations)
- see Can I change a contact's Original source?
- see Understand 'Original source drill-down' properties
Note: Please search for recent posts as HubSpot evolves to be the #1 CRM platform of choice world-wide.
Hope that helps.
Be well,
Frank

The answers from HS have been inadequate to me so far. Trade shows are a big driver of leads, but I don't see them addressed well in the KB articles for Original Source Drill down fields. We would be happy to use one of the drill down fields to enter the name of the trade show that the lead first came from, or just to have a generic "trade show" label, but I havent' seen information on modifying the drilldowns 1 and 2, only the Original source, which we are find with "offline".
Has anyone built ways to track trade show source via HS default tools?

Hello @donrua ,
I would highly recommend you to please post this idea at our ideas forum (here).

If I create a custom source property, is there a way to block it from being overwritten? For example, if a lead was originally imported on a list from Tradeshow A, but then attends Tradeshow B, I don't want the original source written over.

Hi Tracie,
Yes and no. If you create a custom property and then upload a new list, you could set it so it only uploads if the field is empty. But, people would always be able to manually override this when they wanted — which kind of **bleep**.
Does this make sense?

Where can you set it to only override if field is blank? There is a lot of fields I'd like to do this with, but based on what I've been reading, this isn't possible. https://knowledge.hubspot.com/articles/kcs_article/contacts/if-i-upload-a-csv-with-new-information-w...
Thanks.
