Tips for successfully migrating from Salesforce to HubSpot

Switching software can seem like a daunting task, and, if you’re migrating all your data out of Salesforce,  it can feel even more intimidating.

So, how can you migrate from Salesforce to HubSpot in a way that ensures your employees don’t sacrifice productivity? What steps can you take to ensure a smooth transition? We asked HubSpotters for some tips and tricks when making the move.

  1. Check out this step by step guide to setting up the SFDC integration in HubSpot. This includes the questions you should consider when making the switch, how to set up the sync, and more.
  2. Clean up your data. Take this opportunity to remove contacts who are no longer engaged with your business. The migration should be a fresh start for your data. By removing contacts who you don’t market to anymore, you can cut costs and stay organized.
  3. Consider how you’re setting your team up for success. Come up with a training plan so that everyone on your team who will be using HubSpot feels comfortable. Run training in small groups and hold office hours where people can come to ask questions or provide feedback. By understanding common challenges, you can create the resources to best support your team.

Tips for successfully migrating from Salesforce to HubSpot

Love that you mentioned the data cleanup piece, @nmedina

While going through the migration process from one CRM to another, it's the perfect opportunity do do some data hygiene exercises. This could include cleaning out unengaged contacts, standardizing properties that may be used in the future for personalization tokens (e.g. ensuring that First Name properties have appropriate capitalizaton), and removing unnecessary and/or unused properties. We always tell clients that they definitely won't regret spending sufficient time on this part of the process.

Also, because Salesforce may have objects that don't map 1:1 with a standard Hubspot object, there are usually some great opportunities to leverage Hubspot's custom objects that can be discussed as part of the migration and setup of the Hubspot instance.

Migrations can be overwhelming, but it's a great opportunity to take a close look at your data, organization, and processes. After a successful migration, not only can you be successfully stood up on a new CRM, but your processes and quality of data can be significantly improved.
