Tagging Contacts

SOLVE

Hi all -

New Hubspot CRM user here.

My contacts fall into different categories depending on line of business.  For example, some might be contacts for my Consultancy service, or others for my training service.

How do I tag my CRM contacts for future search?  That is, Contact A might be a consultancy client and Contact B is a training client.   I'd like to tag them so I can later search on all clients of one type or another.

Also, can I have sub-tags?  For example Client B wants training on Subject X, but Client C wants training on Subject Z.

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris, there are no 'tags' in the CRM. However, ...

You could setup 2 custom Contact properties (multi-checkbox)
Example:
Title-1: Client Interest
Options: Consultancy, Training

Title-2: Interest Topic
Options: Consultancy-SEO, Consultancy-Accounting, Training-SEO, Training-Accounting

- see Create custom properties

By using 2 custom contact properties together you solve all scenarios whereby any 'Client Interest' can be searched for any 'Interest Topic' combination. -- e.g., Consultancy-Accounting AND Training-SEO. Client Interest for such a client would be BOTH Consultancy AND Training.

Hope that helps.

Be well,
Frank

Why is it saying "Solved" to the right when this functionality is not available?

Is there a timetable for tagging Contacts/Accounts?  I know I can create a PL property and do it this way, but most solutions allow you to add tags without replacing current tags - almost like a text field that becomes a string of values as new tags are applied.  Sales used this a lot in Outreach.io, and are missing it in HS.

Love to hear an update!

Hi @ebooster,

I can see the right solutions have been proposed for your challenge. Still, I'm working on something to make it even easier to use tags.

Would be happy for your input or to try us out. Details here: HubTags

Hi @mocitymarketing,

You cannot send emails to custom contact properties. If you would like to email the contact, their email address must be included in the "email" field.

Thank you,

Jenny

Hey Frank

That's really helpful thank you!

I have set up the custom properties as you suggest, and will refine these in coming days.

A further slightly off topic, but still related, question please:

Is there a tool within the basic (free) Hubspot CRM which allow me to build a contact form I can embed on my web site?  I want a prospect to complete his / her name, email address and a couple of the custom fields I have created.  On SUBMIT, I want this data to go directly into my HubSpot CRM.  Grateful if you could point me to the right KB article for this.

Thanks!
Chris

Hi @ebooster,

HubSpot forms is a free tool, so you can create forms within HubSpot that you can embed in your website, and which will send data into HubSpot.

Thanks,
Jenny
