Property with Multi-Select >> Single-Line Text for "Other"

Hello Friends! I need a multi-select field where if "other" is selected, a free entry text field is enabled (and required).

Early stage prospecting, we have a list of known values but are still gathering additoinal information from the market. We need to be able to multi select and then if the rep encounters a new value, they can select "other" and then MUST provide a value.

I've accomplished the multi-select with a "multiple checkboxes" property and the free-entry with a "single-line text" property, but don't seem to be able to make the single-line text property dependent on choosing "other" from the multiple checkboxes.

1. Am I correct in understanding that you can't make a single-line text property conditional on a selection from a multipe checkboxes property?

2. My workaround is to put the text property on a new card, which appears on the company record whenever "other" is selected from the multiple checkboxes property. Can anyone suggest a better solution?

Hi @shultze,

HubSpot has conditional options for properties and conditional logic for enumeration properties – which sound very similar but aren't.

Following the steps of the latter, you should be able to display a single-line text field after "Other" was selected in a multiple checkboxes property 🙂

At this time, conditional property logic is available only for enumeration property types, which include dropdown select, multiple checkboxes, single checkbox, and radio select properties. So, you are correct that you cannot make a single-line field conditional based on a multiple-checkbox property. 

Can you share how you set up your workaround? This might be what I would suggest as well, but just want to make sure we are on the same page!
