Original Source type auto-generate fail

When a Contact comes into our system, and then we create a New Deal for it, the Original Lead Source we choose then changes within 1 minute of the New Deal being created. I think the auto-generate feature for Original Source Type interferes with what we have manually chosen and to be honest it's a real nightmare because all our Deals have incorrect Original Source Types without realising it for some time. Is there a way to avoid this/solve this? If we used Original Source Type Data 1/2 would this avoid the auto-generate error?

If you want to make sure that the value doesn't change I would recommend setting up your own custom property.
