We currecntly have a list for contacts that have no subscription types, this list has 3-4 workflows doing different things to remove and add contacts from the list.
Would this somehow be contradicting itself as I can visually see contacts what should be in the list, no and the other way artound.
I have attached a clasic example where I can visually see the contacts being added and removed from the list.
@RMarks15 this would give you all the pieces of the puzzle - there isn't any scenario where this doesn't work, only where potentially you can't make sense of it. I'd suggest you give this a try.

Without seeing the list criteria, the workflow actions and understanding what you're trying to accomplish (bigger picture), it's hard to say. If you share those screenshots and details, I'll happily share my assessment with you.

The list has no cirteria. I assume it comes from a workflow somewhere, only, as i say there are 3-4 workflows that could be the cause of this.
All three are linked to the list and all three are live. How do i know which one is causing this issue without turning them all off and strating again?
