Lead status: difference between Lead property & Company property

What is the purpose of the Lead Status field in the Company properties? How is it typically used? Why would you have a company at one Lead Status and the contact at another?

I'm not aware of an universal best practice regarding this but often when there are properties common to contacts and companies, the company version follows the most advanced contact. This way you could have multiple contacts at different stages of the process, but the company will always be recognised as being as far progressed as the most progressed contact - if that makes sense.

You are not obliged to use Company Lead Status if it doesn't add any value for you. Conversely you could set all contacts and the associated company to the same lead status, if that works for you.
