Is it possible to stop tasks from being automatically created in the Contact record?

We only run tasks for Deals and some tasks are being automatically created in the Contact record. Is there a way to stop this from occuring?

Could you share more details how you are creating tasks or how they are being created? If you don't know, could you share a screenshot?

If you're using workflows to create tasks, I'd recommend checking out the settings of this step. In this screenshot from a deal-based workflow, you can select which other records to associate this task with:
