Importing Question

New to HubSpot! I had a successful initial upload on companies! 


I uploaded my initial list of contact and while no errors, if my contact did not have an email address (even though I had Company Name in the import) the contact did not link with the company in HubSpot. 

 

I added Company Domain Name and Primary Company into my import but while it did not states there was an error, there is a note that I have 2 unmapped columns which to me, means that these will not help get these contact under the right company.  I tried to add these fields to the properties in Contacts but they were not available! Please help!

 

How do I connect the contacts with the right company through import without email addresses?

 

Also I had 1 contact that has the Domain email address that matches the domain name in the company but did not connect? Why did that happen and what do I need to do to fix it?

Hi @SHanson9 

 

Can you share the actual error messages you see?

To the best of my knowledge association of records happens either:

 

  • by contact email which matches domain associated with the company (and the automatic association feature being turned on in HubSpot)
  • if the above doesn't exist, then you will need a unique identifier (e.g., Record ID, email, company domain name, or unique value properties)

Have you imported multiple objects, i.e. contacts and companies in your import?

The company domain name is a company property and needs to be imported into the company record. By doing so we tell the system contact XYZ belongs to company ABC.

 

It's a bit confusing and imports are an art onto itself but I hope it makes sense.

Importing Question

Thank you! Maybe these screen shots will explain it better. Truly appreciate your help!

 

When I upload, i am seeing this; so it is asking me to map the domain name and the primary company to the contact fields but these don't exist as property options in the contacts that I can tell?

BUT when I view the contact in Hub Spot, there is a primary company on the view - but I can't map it to anything? Even when there is a domain name and the contact is linked to a domain?

and when I have a contact that does not have an email address, adding the domain to tag it to, does not seem possible as there is no place to map it (above)

How do I have the contact linked to the company, if there is no email address? and why do the ones that are linked through domain email address not show up as having a primary company?
