Importing CSV File not Detecting Contact ID column

SOLVE

This morning, I tried to update a bunch of records by doing a CSV file import, but it didn't recognize the Contact ID field from the file I created. So I then used the export file from Hubspot I used. It recognized the Contact ID header in the file, but then it wouldn't update the property values I mapped. I've gotta be missing something basic. Help!

Importing CSV File not Detecting Contact ID column

SOLVE

Hi @MZimo,

Contact ID is referring to the ID automatically assigned to each contact in HubSpot. It cannot be edited or changed and should be a 10-digit number. HubSpot is expecting this 10-digit number here.

In your import file, the Contact ID column seems to contain another ID, not the HubSpot one. It's only a 6-digit number – this is not accepted by HubSpot. Hence the error.

To solve this, simply follow the directions on the screen. Uncheck the "This file includes a Contact ID column" checkbox. If you want to import this ID, you would have to create a custom property (single line text) for it first. After creating it, you can map it to your column during the import process.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Are you sure you're not talking about Company ID? Those are long, but I've been using these contact ID's successfully for dozens of imports.

I have this same issue. HubSpot only downloaded a 6 digit contact ID number. Nothing else. Weeks were spent cleaning 7,000 contacts... and now I have no way of uploading them.

Hi @MZimo,

Could you share screenshots so we can better investigate this?

  • screenshot of your import file (pixelating confidential information, but at least one contact ID should be visible)
  • screenshot of property mapping (your file)
  • screenshot of property mapping (HubSpot export file)
  • history of one property of one contact which should've been updated (see here)

Best regards
